The Syro-Ephraimite War of Isaiah 7 and 2 Kings 16 does not appear as such in the narrative of the reign of King Ahaz of Judah in 2 Chron. 28.  Instead the Chronicler records how first Aram and then Israel defeated Judah.  Perhaps most shockingly, after being confronted by the prophet Oded, the northerners repented by caring for their southern neighbors, anointing them, putting them on their donkeys, and delivering them to Jericho, before returning to Samaria.  Why did the Chronicler transform the conflict narratives of Isaiah and 2 Kings into a parable about the good Samaritans?
