At the recent Society of Biblical Literature annual meeting a 9 minute video was shot where editors from various publishers mention two or three of their best-sellers. Prostitutes and Polygamists: A Look at Love, Old Testament Style was one of two books featured by Zondervan Academic.
Apparently Bible nerds want to read about sex in Scripture. Can you blame them?
While Jesse Hillman of Zondervan was talking, I am, unfortunately, in the background on the left wildly gesticulating as I speak to a new acquaintance. (The Zondervan section is from 4 to 5 minutes into the clip). Many of the books are a bit more academic than mine.
Thanks to Dallas Flippin for producing the video.
My seminary held an Alumni reunion in October 2015 and they asked me to speak on my most recent book, Prostitutes and Polygamists: A Look at Love, Old Testament Style.
I speak about
Abraham the pimping patriarch,
Tamar the pious prostitute, and
David the raping monarch.
I really like how the video turned out. It’s about 35 minutes. Check it out:
If you’ve ever wondered…
“What’s up with all the weird sexual behavior in the Old Testament?”
…then you should check out the book trailer for my new book, Prostitutes and Polygamists: A Look at Love, Old Testament Style (Zondervan). The book is now available for pre-order. It comes out Sept 1, 2015.
If you know anyone interested in the topic of sex, feel free to share the video.
In the video, I’m walking through the top floor of derelict building in downtown Grand Rapids that used to have a dance hall below. These upper rooms were smaller, hotel-type rooms, perhaps rented on a hourly basis.
If you are a Bible geek, and a fan of Gilbert & Sullivan, you will love this (less than 4 minutes).
Truly amazing. Wet your pants funny.
Thanks to Josh Tyra, who arranged it, wrote the modified lyrics, and posted it on youtube, and to Jim West who brought it to my attention.
